Die Lewe is nie 'n Kleedrepetisie nie
Kort Film Dokumenter geskenk aan Dr. Henry Davel
The validation of this concept is envisioned through the creation of an autographic documentary narrating the compelling story of Henry Davel. The documentary will seamlessly weave together archival images and contemporary video footage to substantiate the narrative surrounding Henry Davel and his venture into crafting the Minke wine.
In 1995, Dr. Henry Davel achieved the prestigious title of Cape Wine Master, a testament to his expertise in oenology. Simultaneously holding a doctorate in springs, his multifaceted background laid the foundation for a remarkable journey. In the year 2000, Dr. Davel, also a practicing doctor, played a pivotal role in the delivery of his first grandchild, Minke.
Inspired by the joy of becoming a grandfather, Dr. Davel embarked on the venture of producing his own red wine, selecting the Pinot Noir cultivar for this purpose. Harvesting grapes from Jan Boland Coetzee's farm, 'Vriesenhof,' he chose 'Murati' as the venue for the winemaking process. Driven by innovation, he adopted a unique method involving dry ice.
Motivated by a belief expounded in his theses, Dr. Davel asserted that Pinot Noir, according to his research, stood as the healthiest wine option, particularly for pregnant women. This conviction led him to name his creation after his first grandchild, Minke. His research further demonstrated the health benefits, suggesting that two sips of Pinot Noir daily surpassed the health advantages of consuming a full glass over the course of a weekend.
As Dr. Davel's family expanded to include nine more grandchildren, practical considerations made it impractical to produce wines named after each one. The documentary will intricately capture Dr. Henry Davel's odyssey, chronicling his ascent to wine mastery, the impetus behind his decision to produce a distinctive wine, the intricacies of the winemaking process, his revolutionary use of dry ice, and the meaningful choice of naming the wine Minke.
